Continue on from the MLO 5 page where I described a good about my study abroad, There were a few things that I wanted to continue to talk about.
Mainly my desires for study in Japan, were one: go and live in Japan, and two: I wanted my Japanese to improve significantly. I started off wanting to become more social than I had previously been; therefore, when I went to Japan I forced myself to talk with, and meet as many new people as I could. Since my main desire was to learn to speak Japanese proficiently, meeting new Japanese students became one of the funnest things for me to do in Japan. I believe because of this my personality really changed in the first few months of going to Japan. I went from an incredibly shy person that like to go unnoticed, to a person that could have conversations with people in a cafe that I had never met before. That’s really what I wanted to do while I was in Japan.
Personally, there was one thing that I didn’t get to do that I would have really liked to, and this was go to a really famous shrine in kyoto. I had done a my during my third semester in Japanese on a temple called Fushimi Inari Jinja, because of this I found this temple specifically fascinating and really wanted to go. Even though I went to Kyoto with a large group of friends, we didn’t end up going to this shrine during the two days that we were there. I was slightly upset, but I vowed that when I go back to Japan one of the first things I travel to, as long as I had enough tie, was to this temple.
Like I said earlier, I became a more social person, and actually, I became more dependent on social actions with people while I was in Japan, I felt that in order to truly learn Japanese, than I had to become social, and I had to talk with people. I couldn’t be scared of making mistakes or asking for directions, this was probably the biggest change I had decided to make while I was in Japan. Since I was in Japan, I never really found it difficult to find somebody to speak to in Japanese, whether I needed something at the store that I couldn’t find, or I need help during the time I was studying, I always found someone to atleast talk a little bit with
