JAPN 306: The Japanese Mind meet’s one ¼ of the culture courses with-in MLO 2 requirements. With-in this course we had to read, understand and criticly analyze certain aspects of Japanese culture. Progressing through the course we were giving articles to read and analyze about Japanese culture, and by dong this we were acquired more understanding about Japanese culture, and thus we were able to fully understand why in-fact Japanese culture is so unique and difficult to comprehend. Through looking at MLO 2’s requirements, we can see that by joinging this class, part of the requirement was filled. For the midterm and final project we were allowed to choose a certain aspect of Japanese culture, which, in-turn, we researched, analyzed and presented our finding. Also, were were given numerous assignments, in which we had to right specifically about a given topic, analyzing our Ideas in context of the class readings, By doing this, just like our end of the term research paper, we are caplbe of looking at, deriving meaning, and writing about a certain aspect of Japanese culture that we may not have thought about otherwise. For me I learned that analyzing certain topics, like the ones chose to share below is not as easy as one may think. When study an new culture it is important to look at it from a holistic point of view, rather than a personal one. I think this is what I learned the most. I really do enjoy studying Japanese culture, so I would like to continue studying it; this time I’d like to studying more about it in Japanese. After I return to Japan, I plan to continue studying the reading light novels and culture based books.
