Japanese 400: Advanced Intercultural Communication
JAPN 400 This course aims to develop advanced proficiency in interpersonal communication through the formulation of research questions and conducting research utilizing appropriate technologies. Taught in Japanese.

- Students become familiar with appropriate research methodologies and are able to apply such in their studies.
- Students will use appropriate technologies in research and studies relative to Japanese language and culture.
- Students will collect, manage and analyze current and emerging technology-based resources to develop and produce their scholarly work
In the fall of 2013 I started taking my final upper division classes. To fulfill MLO 4: Research and technology, I took the course: JAPN 400 Research and Technology. This course helps us to develop or capstone project as well research this project through using technological means such as; online databases, and Google Scholar. By looking at the MLO outcomes, we see there are 3 things that we need to do to fulfill this outcome. Within this class, we created our own research questions, we performed research on these questions, and we collected and organized many different sources that were relevant to our research questions. Through this we fulfilled the outcomes specifically listed for this course.
I personally created two research questions, which I then researched extensively finding nearly 20 articles and past surveys. After I performed my background research I read through my articles, finding sources that I would allow me to reference in my capstone presentation. After I found these references I started creating my survey question based off past surveys as well as my own research questions. This was the main part of this course, and by looking at the course outcomes I feel I met the outcomes.
After taking this course, I noticed many things about myself as well as the way I create and manage important documents. When I noticed the faults I had, I made changes which helped my abilities and the stress I was feeling diminish greatly. After this, creating my survey questions, as well as managing my research was much easier.
In the future, I want to be able to perform y research, as well as create surveys the impact more than just my own graduation. Since I would like to return to graduate school, creating another dissertation is going to be necessary. I like to develop this survey with less stress, and rely more on those around me for help instead of trusting only in myself to finish it.
As I said before, I’d like to continue onto graduate school, in which I’d like to continue researching second language acquisition in an informal setting. For this, I’d have to become better at performing research and creating surveys.
